how to find perfect family home
Once you have a family your responsibilities are multiplied by a thousand. One of the biggest ones is finding the perfect family home. If you get it right your kids will enjoy their lives a lot more, so you need to take it seriously.

Do you have any idea what you’ll need to look for in a new home at the moment? You must come up with a good plan before you start hunting for a house. We’ll go over a few things you should definitely add to the checklist.

1. Growing Old in Your Home

When investors look at homes they think about real estate cycles and rates of appreciation. The only thing you should be thinking about is growing old in your home. You’ll need to come up with a bunch of features you’d like to see.

Mention them to any real estate agents you work with to narrow down your choices. Does it feel like the kind of home your kids will return to at Christmas when they’ve grown up? It’s one good question to ask yourself.

2. Your Family Might Expand

It doesn’t necessarily matter how many people are in your family at the moment. One accident and you might need an extra bedroom it 9 months time. You should know by now if you plan on having any more children.

Those who do know their family will expand should look for houses with extra bedrooms. It means you’ll be prepared when the time comes. Every child will reach an age when they’ll need their own private space.

3. Adding a Few New Bedrooms

Fear not if you don’t manage to find a cheap home with extra bedrooms. You’ll just need to make sure the one you buy can be extended. It’s easier to create bedrooms in places that don’t require planning permission.

The attic and basement are obvious examples. It will take you a few days to turn them into beautiful rooms. If you want to physically expand your home you’ll need extra space in the garden before doing anything.

4. You’ll Need a Large Garden

Large gardens come in extremely handy when you have kids. They’ll need enough space to play outside, plus you’ll likely have a swing set and trampoline too. There is no way everything will squeeze into a tiny garden.

It’s also the house you’ll be spending your life in, so you’ll need to be able to entertain. When the garden is big enough you’ll be able to throw barbecues, birthday parties, and anything else you can think of.

5. Buy a Home You Can Afford

buy home you can afford
Don’t pay over the odds for a home you can’t afford.  You will need to work out how much you’re able to spend before you start looking. I know some people will take future work bonuses and promotions into account.

You shouldn’t include anything you can’t guarantee because they might not happen. You’ll be stuck paying for an expensive home, which will ruin your life in other ways. Your children will hate missing out on holidays every year.

6. Always Factor in the Location

You won’t spend your entire life stuck inside the four walls of your home, so you have to factor in the location. In a perfect world, you’ll have everything you need within a few miles of the property.

It’s nice if you can walk your children to school in the morning. There should be a playground close to your home, plus somewhere to walk your dog if you have one. Jot down everything you would like to see nearby.

The Stressful Search Will Be Worth It

Finding the perfect family home is going to stress you out, so remember it will be worth it in the end. Even if you do have to move your kids will be able to say they had an excellent childhood when they were growing up.
