Five Ways to Make Your Caravan Feel Like Home
If the Tiny House movement has taught us anything, it’s that you can live in a luxurious home even if it’s on wheels. While some certainly go all out and build their caravan home from the ground up, this isn’t the only option. With this guide, you can take home five great ideas to update your caravan and make it feel more like home.
1. Customize the Storage
There are two steps to improving the storage situation in your caravan. The first is knowing how to de-clutter your caravan. Finding that happy medium where you still have everything that you need but no clutter does take time, but it is one of the best things you can do for the quality of life in your caravan.
a. Tips for Toiletries
Try finding one set of toiletries that everyone can use. That means one shampoo, conditioner, and soap solution. For bonus points, try to look for zero-waste options. They are usually more compact (like shampoo bars) and don’t leave behind something you’ll need to keep until you can responsibly throw it out.
b. Tips for Food
Invest in a food storage system that fits perfectly and makes sense to you. This will likely be another zero-waste system where you can then stock up on food in bulk.
c. Tips for Clothes
Your travel wardrobe should be light and versatile. Don’t bring clothes that get dirty easily (like polyester) or that are too delicate to handle a laundromat wash.
2. Repaint the Interior
The best way to make any caravan feel like home is to pay attention to the walls. Consider repainting the cupboards, adding wallpaper, and other similar decorative changes. Do be careful with the material you are painting, however. Some will need to be specially primed or need a special type of paint to work effectively.
3. Add Decorative Elements
Add paintings, picture frames, and other décor elements that you enjoy and can ideally be hung up or won’t take up too much space. This way, you can make your little home feel like a real home.
4. Change the Fixtures
The fixtures include things like the taps, the cupboard door handles, and other small features. When you first buy your caravan, these fixtures will likely be nothing more than the builder’s standard, and though in some cases you might not have the option to change them, being aware of the possibilities can help you decorate your caravan and update its design instantly.
The sink taps, for example, can be updated to suit your style or to add more function (like a hose that can extend, possibly to the outside so you can wash off your bikes before loading them up).
Another feature you will want to look at is the shower. Upgrading the showerhead is one of the easiest ways to improve the comfort of your little home.
5. More Unique Renovations
Last but not least, consider custom renovations. For these renovations, you will want to bring your caravan to a specialist. These people will have been making custom caravans for years and will know exactly how to update your own tiny home to improve its efficiency for your needs. When you buy a caravan, you buy the standard, but with custom improvements, you can upgrade your home, so it truly reflects your personality and meets your needs.
