How to Save Money Buying an iPhone
Apple’s iPhones are pretty cool to own, and useful too. However, the world’s most famous smartphone can also be incredibly expensive to buy. The average consumer sometimes has to spend months to afford the latest iPhone. Unlike the most type of smartphones, there are no budget iPhones. Apple, unlike a brand like Samsung, only makes one version, and it is expensive. There is no Samsung Galaxy J5 equivalent for the iPhone. But if you try hard enough, you might be able to buy an iPhone that does not blow your monthly budget. Here are several tips:
Buy Used or Refurbished
The easiest way to save money buying an iPhone is to purchase a used model.Used iPhones are more common and retail at half or even less than that of the original selling price. When a new iPhone model is about to be released, you will find many older models getting listed online as used. You won’t be able to get the latest iPhone this way, but you could still own an iPhone without spending more than you can afford.
Choose a Refurbished iPhone
Refurbished purchases are iPhones that have been damaged or broken before, but have been restored as new by Apple. You can expect a refurbished iPhone to work as new. Refurbished phones are also sold with the warranty and any extra accessories the original phone might have been sold with. But you can expect a significantly lower price tag than the original retail price. The downside is, refurbished iPhones are rather rare and you always have to keep an eye on iPhone selling sites for these.
Purchase an Older Model
Older models of iPhones get cheaper and cheaper as time drags on. If a new model is about to be released, then the prices for the older models with dramatically drop. For example, when iPhone 7 was about to be released, the iPhone 6 prices dropped on all online retail sites. You can buy an iPhone 5 these days retailing at around the same price range as a budget smartphone. You might be able to purchase directly from Apple, but usually, only third-party vendors offer attractively low prices for older iPhone models.
Wait about 6 to 9 Months Following the Release to Buy
Arguably, the price you have to pay for the latest iPhone can be rather hefty compared to, say, Google Pixel prices. You can save a lot of money purchasing an iPhone if you are willing to wait. When you buy used or refurbished, you can save money but will have to put up with an older model. Not all consumers might like this option. If you must get your hands on the latest iPhone model, wait about 6 months following the release. By then all the furor following a new iPhone release had died down. The novelty is worn off, for the most part, so you won’t have to pay a premium to own a new product. Plus, Apple would have fixed any bugs that may have appeared with the new product by then.
You can also save at least a $100 by choosing the lower storage version of a model. GO for 32GB iPhones rather than 64GB ones to save a bit more cash.
