What Is The Justice League Snyder Cut?
If you haven’t seen someone, somewhere, plastering calls for the Snyder Cut to be released all over their social media, you’re the exception. Ever since the release of the less than well-received Justice League film in 2017, a wave of interest for the so-called Snyder Cut has swept the internet. But what exactly is it, should you care about it, and does it actually exist?
If you haven’t seen the 2017 Justice League yet, perhaps give it a miss. The movie is notoriously bad, having been slashed to pieces, had enormous sections removed, and more or less been completely hammered into something it was never meant to be. Though, word is that this tampering was not the fault of director Zack Snyder.
Rumour has it that it was studio executives from Warner Brothers that decided, last minute, to have the film completely rehashed by Joss Whedon, dramatically compromising the original vision.
Can They Do That?
Wait, the studio just scrapped tons of work, and millions of dollars in effort, at the last minute? Can they do that?
Yes, they did, and yes they can. After getting a less than favourable response to Batman Versus Superman, Warner Brothers made a panicked decision to try and course correct. This isn’t uncommon, though, it is slightly more uncommon that such a move be made for a film that cost a small fortune to make. There is more to it than that, with Snyder apparently stepping down for personal reasons, but the short version is that the 2017 Justice League was a mess on release.
There aren’t betting options offered for whether the Snyder Cut will be better than the original, but you can still check out some Australian sports betting right here.
Release The Snyder Cut!
After Justice League bombed at the box offices, and was savaged by critics, an interesting trend developed. Social media started to blossom with calls for a Snyder Cut to be released. In other words; a version of the film not tampered with by the studio, or Joss Whedon. Just a few years ago such calls would have been completely ignored, but this is 2021, and social media is a force to be reckoned with.
It was announced that, amazingly, a new version was going into production. Though, let’s just get a few things straight. Almost none of the upcoming releases will be new material. The Justice League remake will be constructed almost exclusively from footage left on the cutting room floor. This doesn’t mean, however, that it won’t be an almost entirely new film. Given how much editing happened of the original, there was likely hours of footage that was never used.
The Justice League Snyder Cut, which has an over four-hour running time, will be released on various streaming platforms around the world, including HBO Max, Sky, and Binge, on March 18th, 2021. Sadly, many countries won’t have official access to it until an unspecified future date and it’s likely it won’t have the same impact as other titles in the genre. Shame on Warner Brothers for the former, but not much they can do about the latter.
