Manipulative News Stories Contribute to Vaping’s Bad Reputation
The reputation of the vaping industry is at risk due to sensationalized media stories. If you are regularly watching the latest vaping news, you will quickly notice the alarming statistics they represent.
In the past couple of years, we have read stories, which claim that vaping is as bad as smoking. Other stories say that vaping might be the reason for children to start smoking.
In this article, we’re going to look at the most popular stories regarding the negative effects of vaping. This way you can decide on your own whether vaping has an impact on your health or not.
Is vaping worse than smoking traditional cigarettes?
Did you know that inhaling the smoke of cigarettes means that you ingest over 7,000 substances? It is proven that they have over 400 toxins and 43 carcinogens.
Vaping consists of only four main compounds. Throughout the years, no study has shown that the vaping ingredients can cause cancer or any other damage to the human body.
The way media represents the vaping industry can seriously harm its reputation. With their sensationalised stories they manage to create fear in people’s eyes.
Is vaping a gateway to smoking?
Another misconception born from the media frenzy is that vaping serves as a gateway to smoking. A recent study has shed light on the story, stating that there’s nothing to suggest that e-cigarettes serve as a gateway to smoking tobacco.
Even though that the study states the opposite, some stories still claim that e-cigarettes are worse. By doing this, more and more people are unaware of the life-saving advantage of the vaporiser.
Tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death in the world and the majority of the population views vaping as a gateway to smoking when it is a way to quit doing it.
Are vaporisers exploding frequently?
You can’t have missed the stories claiming that the majority of vaping devices explode. However, is this something that happens frequently and should you be concerned about it?
Let’s look at what the studies have to say about that. A study conducted by the American Fire Administration in 2009, found out that there are only 195 cases of vaporisers that have exploded.
This number is rather small to conclude that all vaporisers explode. In most situations, the media stories published do not tell you about the crucial facts. Most explosions occur due to vaporiser modification or negligence.
Studies on the health impact of e-cigarettes
Even though there are many studies that prove the fact that e-cigarettes are far healthier than smoking traditional tobacco, many new stories state that “more research must be conducted to determine whether there are any possible risks”.
Vaping has been a thing since the 90s and its popularity has been throughout the years steadily. So, why is this phrase constantly used, when there are many studies that claim the opposite.
By using vaporisers, you will significantly reduce the number of carcinogens and toxins in your body. A study found that a perfectly optimised device will result in less toxic emissions.
According to the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom, the harm from smoking e-cigarettes won’t even exceed 5% of smoking traditional cigs.
When the news stories tell that more research must be conducted, the public opinion is shifted into thinking that vaping is harmful.
In the end, we must start categorising the news that aims to produce a negative feeling in us. It is scientifically proven that e-cigarettes are less harmful than their tobacco equivalent.
The tobacco industry is huge and it’s no surprise that they use any means to harm the e-cigarette’s popularity. Whether this will happen, solely depends on you as a user.
